p Private Practice - Washington, D.C. 7/82 - present. Established general practice firm with special emphasis on criminal and civil litigation in D.C. and Maryland. Areas of practice include criminal trial and appellate litigation, post conviction litigation, personal injury, medical malpractice, construction contract litigation, wrongful death, employment discrimination, police brutality and civil rights litigation.
p Adjunct Professor/Clinical Supervisor, University of Baltimore School of Law, Baltimore, Maryland. 9/81 - 8/82. Developed a clinical program supervising students representing prisoners in civil rights cases in U.S. District Court in Maryland. Co-taught clinical practice skills course.
p Interim Director/Staff Attorney, Prisoners' Assistance Project, Baltimore, Maryland. 9/79 - 8/81. Established policies and procedures for the delivery of legal services to prisoners and had primary responsibility for litigation of several class action suits challenging conditions of confinement in state jails and prisons. Accomplishments included obtaining a Consent Decree closing the 100-year-old P.G. County Detention Center, successfully litigating a civil rights case on behalf of prisoner raped in P.G. County Detention Center, which touched off a national expose on sexual assaults in jails.
p Student Law Clerk, The National Prison Project of the ACLU, Washington, D.C. 10/77 - 5/79. Accomplishments included participation in litigation that resulted in the largest psychiatric malpractice settlement ($500,000) on behalf of a prisoner crippled by excessive doses of psychotropic medication.
p Paralegal Supervisor, The Prisoner's Rights Project, Boston, Massachusetts 10/74 - 7/76. Supervisor of paralegal staff, law students and volunteers assisting inmates with institutional legal problems; representation at parole revocation and administrative hearings; investigation for class action litigation and post -conviction proceedings.
